Summary Of Position
A yard driver primary responsibility is to move and position trailers and containers within a yard, warehouse, or logistics terminal using a tractor. This role involves safely navigating tight spaces, docking trailers, coordinating with logistics team members, and performing pre- and post-trip equipment inspections. Success in this position requires exceptional communication skills and seamless coordination with the logistics team in Union, NJ.
Position Duties And Responsibilities
Equipment Inspection: Conductthorough pre- and post-trip inspections on terminal tractors and trailers to ensure they are in safe and proper working order.
Trailer Movement: Safely maneuver semi-trailers and other equipment between various locations within the yard, from storage to loading docks.
Docking and Positioning: Position trailers precisely at loading docks for efficient loading and unloading operations.
Yard Organization: Arrange and organize trailers in designated areas to prevent congestion and maintain a smooth workflow.
Communication: Effectively communicate with dispatchers, dock workers, and other drivers to coordinate freight flow and ensure operational efficiency.
Basic Maintenance: Perform basic maintenance tasks, such as fueling vehicles, cleaning trailers, and performing minor equipment repairs, to keep equipment in good working condition.
Safety Procedures: Adhere to all safety procedures and guidelines to ensure the safety of themselves and others in the yard environment.
Minimum Requirements
Experience:
2+ years of Tractor Trailer driving experience.
Valid CDL A driver's license
In-depth understanding of DOT regulations and local ordinances.
Work Ethic: Demonstrates a sense of urgency in meeting deadlines, with strong interpersonal skills.
Language: Proficiency in spoken and written English.
Technology: Familiarity with basic technology and logistics software.
Additional Considerations: A combination of experience, skills, and qualifications will also be considered.
