Job Description

SCOPE
South Bronx United (SBU) is a highly ambitious, international-award-winning, youth development organization serving more than 1,900 youth annually with a core mission to enrich the lives of at-risk, immigrant, and first-generation youth and to help them reach college and pursue professional careers. In the last 6 years, SBU’s revenue has doubled to $3M. SBU needs to grow revenue again this year and is looking for a new team member to be at the heart of these efforts.

The Director requires a gregarious individual who is willing to open doors, shake hands, and curate relationships with major donors and corporate funders throughout the city and the surrounding areas and also spearhead our key fundraising and friend-raising events. We need an established leader who will motivate our team to succeed by setting ambitious targets, providing new opportunities, and embodying people-first approach to growing revenue.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Core responsibilities for the Director of Individual Giving and Events include the following:

  • Build and foster relationships with a pool of key donors.
  • Find untapped, high-potential donors (corporate and individuals) enthusiastic about SBU’s mission and results.
  • Strategize all aspects of a series of high-touch events for significant donors and targets.
  • Team with the Executive Director to cultivate major donors and close major gifts.
  • Manage a team of 2 to oversee day-to-day donor operations.
  • Manage the donor database, pipeline, and communications including tracking relationships through Salesforce.
  • Devise and implement new tactical approaches to grow established fundraising events (Annual Benefit, the Charity Cup, Powerof11).
  • Ensuring accurate data capture and reporting related to gifts, pledges, and grants. Consider new growth opportunities using data-driven approach.
  • Facilitate engagement and giving across the Board of Directors and the SBU Supporters Club Board in collaboration with the Executive Director.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
A strong candidate should meet the following requirements:

  • 5 years of development experience with a nonprofit organization or institution, with at least 2 years of direct solicitation experience
  • Experience in development planning, major gifts, annual gifts, special events, capital campaigns, and stewardship
  • Self-motivated problem-solver; exceptionally organized, detail-oriented, and optimistic
  • Strong communicator with good interpersonal skills and customer service sense
  • First-rate writing skills
  • Entrepreneurial spirit
  • Adept at skillfully partnering with program staff; and able to quickly assimilate knowledge about South Bronx United and its work
  • A passion for the mission and programs of South Bronx United and the broader community
  • An ability to work in diverse, multi-cultural settings

SCHEDULE
Full-time, primarily in-person
