Summary:
Under general supervision, installs, tests, repairs, calibrates and maintains medical equipment in healthcare and other facilities supported by Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium.

Responsibilities:

Installs, tests, repairs, calibrates and maintains medical equipment. Investigates equipment failures; performs troubleshooting to isolate and diagnose problems; identifies, locates, resolves, and repairs equipment and devices. Investigates intermittent problems; maintains accurate service records; documents and maintains accurate records of all inspections, repairs, adjustments, etc. performed on all equipment; updates database of equipment identification, location, status, reliability, and service documentation.

Participates in both internal and external educational programs through professional associations, technical training courses, and seminars to develop and maintain the required current technical aptitude. Interacts with manufacturer's representatives to obtain the necessary technical product information. Requests and/or orders necessary repair and spare parts according to established procedures and contract relationships. Provides operational and technical advice on equipment to medical and clinical staff when needed. Interacts with clinical staff on a regular basis to insure needs are being met.

Lifts, carries and/or pushes/pulls various items (bags, boxes, carts, etc.) while utilizing proper technique.

Complies with all ANTHC safety policies and procedures, Federal Drug Administration (FDA) regulations, National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) rules and regulations, and departmental policies and procedures.

Performs other duties as assigned.

May provide similar services across the Region.

The incumbent is responsible for adhering to established Standards of Courtesy and/or Service Standards.

Biomedical Equipment Repair Technician II

Analyzes, troubleshoots, and repairs diagnostic and therapeutic medical devices utilizing established electronic test and measurement equipment and techniques.

Installs, calibrates, and tests new medical electronic devices and/or systems. Performs scheduled preventive maintenance on medical electronic devices in accordance with manufacturer's recommendation, applicable codes, standards, and department policy. Conducts scheduled and unscheduled electrical and functional safety inspections on medical devices.

Trains medical and clinical staff on the safe and proper use of medical electronic devices and systems. Acts as a resource on more complex technical biomedical equipment issues and mentors Biomedical Equipment Technician I's and Biomedical Assistants to help them grow in ability, responsibility, and experience.

Modifies existing electronic devise and systems to meet the special needs of the user in accordance with manufacturer's recommendations.

Makes recommendations for capital equipment replacements to Manager of Biomedical Engineering.

• Knowledge of medical electronics equipment hardware and software systems and communications devices.
• Knowledge of electronic equipment functions, repair procedures, codes and standards.
• Knowledge of computer networks and telecommunications equipment infrastructure.
• Knowledge of safety policies and procedures, and OSHA rules and regulations.
• Skill in assessing, analyzing, identifying and implementing solutions to technical problems.
• Skill in reading technical diagrams and manuals.
• Skill in using the techniques, tools and test equipment for troubleshooting, repair and maintenance of electronic equipment.
• Skill in assessing and prioritizing multiple tasks, projects and demands.
• Skill in operating a personal computer utilizing a variety of software applications.
• Basic proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office or similar products (primarily Word and Excel).
• Valid state driver's license required.
• Use of personal vehicle for travel to various sites is required/expected.

Biomedical Equipment Repair Technician II
• Basic knowledge of networking technology.

MINIMUM EDUCATION QUALIFICATION

Associate Degree in Electronics (preferably biomedical) or equivalent biomedical military training. An equivalent combination of relevant education and/or training may be substituted for education.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATION

Non-supervisory - Three (3) years of progressively complex (troubleshooting, preventative maintenance, design and modification) hospital-based Biomedical Equipment Technician (BMET) experience required. An equivalent combination of relevant education and/or training may be substituted for experience.
