The Alabama Department of Youth Services (DYS) is seeking qualified Registered Nurses (RNs) and Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) to provide nursing services for students in state custody. Services will be delivered at DYS residential campuses located in Montgomery, Prattville, and Birmingham, Alabama.
Nursing staff will support student health and safety through intake screenings, medication administration, care planning, first aid, hygiene oversight, and coordination with medical professionals.
Key Duties
Observe and monitor students in the clinic or sick-call area
Perform nursing assessments and administer care using approved medical procedures
Collect specimens (blood, urine, throat, wound cultures) as needed
Prepare, administer, document, and deliver daily medications
Maintain accurate medical records, nursing notes, logs, and medication counts
Administer treatments using prescription and standing orders (e.g., injections, dressings, splints, ice/heat packs)
Coordinate referrals to physicians or campus medical clinics as necessary
Must be a Registered Nurse licensed by the Alabama Board of Nursing
Minimum of one (1) year of recent supervised nursing experience within the last three (3) years
