Project Overview:

Bechtel is the licensing, engineering, procurement, and construction partner on TerraPower’s Natrium team. Selected by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) for its Advanced Reactor Demonstration Program, Natrium is participating in a DOE initiative to re-establish U.S. leadership in nuclear energy that provides matching funding to industry to design and build an operational advanced reactor. TerraPower, a leading advanced generation technology company founded by former Microsoft CEO Bill Gates, will be deploying its 345 MWe sodium fast reactor (SFR), called Natrium. The Natrium plant features an advanced, cost-competitive reactor design that is safer, simpler, easier, and less costly to construct, less expensive to operate, and able to provide energy that is competitive with fossil fuels. It also features an innovative molten salt energy storage system designed to be complementary to solar and wind power by evening out the peaks and valleys in production when the sun is not shining, or the wind is not blowing. With the reactor and energy storage output combined, the plant can produce more than 500 MWe of power.

Job Summary:

In this role, you will plan, develop, and review electrical engineering design work, produce drawings and documentation, and prepare design estimates for a project. You will coordinate with clients, facilitate technical discussions, and review key electrical drawings, calculations, and bid summaries. You will solve complex technical issues and ensure electrical designs comply with all regulations and standards. #LI-HB1

This position is designated as (hybrid) part-time telework per our global telework policy and will require at least three days of in-person attendance per week at the assigned office or project. Weekly in-person schedules will be determined by the individual and their supervisor, in consultation with functional or project leadership.

Major Responsibilities:

• Electrical Physical Design (and circuit and raceway).
• Responsible for raceway design, equipment location and layout, C&R schedule inputting and update, conduit, and aboveground raceway design.
• Assists in modeling equipment and commodities used in the electrical design
• Produces drawings and documentation in accordance with established design and scope including design of lighting, communications, grounding layout, grounding designs/calculations, and lightning protection systems.
• Ensuring that the electrical system designs comply with all applicable installation codes, regulations, and standards. 
• May interface with Construction and Subcontractors.
• Capable of independent creative design, with direction, using Bechtel and industry-proven concepts, and procedures.
• Ensures Electrical systems designs comply with all applicable installation codes, regulations, and standards such as the National Electrical Code (NFPA 70)
• Extract applicable 3D model data onto 2D sheets, makes proper annotations, and prepares the drawings for construction use
• Performing calculations utilizing AGI 32 for lighting layouts and ETAP for ground grid layouts
• Develop material specifications utilizing the software SpecsIntact

Education and Experience Requirements:

• Requires a AA/AS or Certificate in Engineering/CAD with 5-6 years of experience, or in lieu of a degree 6-9 years of relevant work experience

Required Knowledge and Skills:

Basic Qualifications:

• Must be a U.S. Citizen.
• Must be able to complete a pre-employment drug screen and background check.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Proficient experience in Microsoft Office Suite programs.
• Extensive knowledge & application of NEC code and ANSI/IEEE Standards.
• Experience in nuclear power plant design.
• Must have proven 2D CADD and 3D skills.
• Must have experience with an electronic Cable Management System, such as the SETROUTE program, and be able to input and complete corrections to the database.
• Must be able to effectively communicate and work well with others and within a team.
• Must be able to collaborate well with other disciplines.
• Ability to cope with conflicting deadlines, frequent interruptions, and multiple tasks.
• Excellent oral & written communications skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Hands-on use or classes using in a 3D electrical model design platform and electrical 2D design.
• Previous Bechtel and/or DOD or DOE project experience.
