JOB TITLE: Director of Facilities & Maintenance
LOCATION: Vandercook Lake Public Schools
REPORTS TO: Superintendent
PAY RATE/SALARY: $51,342 – $60,044
WORKING DAYS/HOURS: M – F

MINIMUM EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
High School Diploma
Preferred: experience with at least 5 years of hands-on campus, facilities, and operations experience
JOB RESPONSIBILITES:
- In consultation with the Superintendent, develops, manages, and monitors operating and capital budgets for
facilities. Assures all paperwork is done in a timely manner
- Directs and coordinates preventive maintenance of systems and buildings; as well as, performs repairs and
maintenance when necessary
- Represents Vandercook Lake Public Schools as the primary interface with staff and companies regarding
maintenance of districts’ facility and grounds
- Supervises and inspects the improvement and renovation work performed by outside contractors and
verifies that the terms of their contracts have been fulfilled prior to final payment authorization
- Assures regulatory compliance (federal and state) for buildings and systems and serves as the liaison with
appropriate state and local officials regarding the inspection of buildings and utility systems
- Routinely inspects buildings and utility systems to determine the need for alterations and/or repair
- Identifies and purchases appropriate products and finishes to be utilized in cleaning/maintaining all facilities
- Assures supplies, materials, and tools are maintained in safe working order and are inventoried for the
district
- Supervises all grounds and custodial positions; establishes and assigns personnel work schedules and costs
of projects; sets priorities for projects and tasks and monitors completion
- Keeps current in the theory and practice of Facilities Management, and participates in regular professional
development
- Attends meetings upon request (directors, admin, board, etc)
- Plan, organize, and execute timely responses to facilities ticket requests
- Coordinate projects around the school calendar including supporting third party facility rentals and after
school, weekend, and summer programs
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Superintendent
ESSENTIAL SKILLS/ABILITIES:
- Demonstrate a commitment to the Mission and Values of Vandercook Lake Public Schools
- Demonstrates a journeyman level of knowledge of HVAC/boiler, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical
equipment
- Demonstrates an advance level of knowledge of building codes, safety procedures, and OSHA requirements
- Superior interpersonal skills and the ability to work well with a diverse group of individuals
- Excellent written and communication skills
- Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks
- ability to supervise and/or personally perform any and all facilities and operations related tasks on/across
the district
- Strong knowledge of building hardware such as locks, doors, door openers, lavatory fixtures, lighting fixtures
and equipment, plumbing, electrical, appliances, and construction
- Strong writing skills to prepare a variety of correspondence, reports, policies and procedures, and training
documents
- Proficient computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite and Google Suite
- Must be a self-starter and have the ability to work independently and as part of a team, to take and give
clear directions
- High integrity and accountability; exceptional attention to detail and accuracy

- Physical abilities: Willing and able to climb ladders and work in areas that are difficult to maneuver through;
Capable of lifting objects as heavy as 50 pounds; sufficient mobility and dexterity of both arms to safely
operate hand and power tools, gauges, valves, etc; ability to frequently bend and stoop.
- Environmental conditions: ability to withstand exposure to high temperatures, seasonal changes, lubrication
agents, dust, hazardous materials such as cleaning chemicals, loud or unpleasant noises. May be exposed to
cramped working spaces and areas/tasks where caution must be exercised to ensure safety.
