Job Description

To prepare for and carry out analysis of environmental samples, monitor for safety and laboratory readiness, and oversee student workers. This position includes the performance of a variety of tasks associated with field and laboratory activities to support ongoing and upcoming research and analytical projects of the Marine Water Quality Laboratory at the Darling Marine Center. The work associated with this position will be conducted primarily out of the Darling Marine Center in Walpole, Maine, but the successful candidate may occasionally participate in fieldwork throughout the Gulf of Maine, potentially in remote areas, and occasionally with overnight travel requirements. Typical hiring range for this soft-money funded position is $50,000 to $52,000 commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a science related field.
  • Basic working knowledge of standard laboratory equipment and technology.
  • One or more years of professional laboratory experience.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated success working under strict regulatory requirements and deadlines
  • Communicates effectively with supervisors, employees, and students in a professional and timely manner
  • Experience with problem solving and the adapting to changing circumstances and conditions.
  • Flexibility to work a schedule that may change due to weather, equipment challenges, or client needs.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs.

Preferred:

  • One or more years of experience in laboratory analyses.
  • Familiarity with environmental analytical chemistry principles. Ability to travel, normally requiring a driver’s license, and may include overnight trips to attend meetings or training programs.
