AI ENGINEER ASSOCIATE

MEANINGFUL WORK AND PERSONAL IMPACT
As an AI Engineer Associate, you'll work with both traditional scientific models and large language models (LLMs) to improve the EPA’s chemical review processes. The role involves the design, programming, testing, and refinement of models to analyze chemical data for risk assessment, collaboration with EPA scientists and stakeholders, and the incorporation of LLMs to enhance data analysis, report generation, and decision support capabilities. Successful candidates will deploy developed models into production, integrating them seamlessly into the chemical review workflow, and collaborate with EPA staff to ensure compatibility with current systems. The contractor will adhere to best practices for model management, versioning, maintenance, reproducibility, and rigorous testing to ensure accuracy and compliance with EPA standards. The AI Engineer will provide comprehensive documentation aligned with EPA’s Quality Assurance Project Plan (QAPP) guidelines, ongoing support, and maintenance of deployed models.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO SUCCEED

● Education: Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Science
● Experience: 0+ years of related experience
● Technical skills: Data Science, R, Python, LLMs
● Security clearance level: must be able to obtain EPA Public Trust Level 4
● US citizenship required
● Role requirements: working knowledge of : machine learning, data science, statistical modeling, and experience with LLMs, cloud computing and CI/CD concepts to effectively manage AI workflows. Cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud is preferred. Python, R, and relevant machine learning frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch) is required. Ethical AI practices, including bias mitigation and transparency.
